Welcome to Second Grade Room 105!!

Hello, my name is Dorothy Portiera and this is my 6th year teaching second grade teacher at St. John’s!! I am so happy to be here, as it has been my family’s parish since we moved to Streamwood in 2006.

I have been teaching in the Archdiocese of Chicago for 16 years. I taught Kindergarten for 5 years in Elk Grove and First Grade for 7 years in Elmwood Park. I have always loved working with children and teaching is my passion. I love seeing the children progress and blossom throughout the year as an elementary educator.

Three main goals we strive for in our classroom: for the children to become independent learners and thinkers, to always take pride in our work, and to be good listeners.

I feel that communication between parent/student/teacher is the key to any classrooms success! Every Friday I will post a newsletter on what we have been learning throughout the week.
