Every year, at Holy Name Cathedral, the Archbishop of Chicago honors faithful and active parishioners from around the Archdiocese with the Christifideles Award. This award is bestowed upon Catholic laypeople who demonstrate the personal and ministerial renewal called for by papal exhortation, Christifideles Laici, calling the laity to the vocation and responsibility for the Church’s life springing from the gift and mission of their baptism by participation in parish life.
Individual who receives this award is a practicing Catholic who manifests an understanding of the teachings of the Church and has been graced with a life formed in the Catholic spiritual tradition. The nomination for the award is advanced by the pastor of the parish is affirmed by the respective Bishop Vicar.
This year Cardinal Cupich presented this award to Monica O’Neill, who has truly used her God given talents to deepen the life of the Church and has served in our parish of St. John’s for so many years in an extraordinary way by her presence and involvement in many, if not all, ministries and aspects of the parish life. Congratulations Monica and thank you for all your faithful service. Well done!
